Senior Analyst, Commercial Mortgage Underwriter

To be successful in this role, the incumbent must performs Annual Risk Ratings in a thorough, logical, consistent and accurate manner using standard industry methodologies. Actively support the region to secure new mortgages and manage loan renewals and defaults in order to minimize losses.

  • Independently performs all tasks associated with the risk rating function including planning the work flow, writing to and collecting updated data from the borrower; inputing the data into our template; collecting and applying the market data; valuation of the asset, financial analysis of borrwers’ financial statements, and recommending the risk rating for approval.
  • May be called upon to assist in the underwriting of new loans (data entry, initial review of the data, collection of market data and other basic analysis).
  • May be called upon to assist in the underwriting of renewal loans (data entry, initial review of the data, collection of market data and other basic analysis).
  • May be called upon to assist in appraising or reviewing an external appraisal (data entry, collection of market data, initial review of the data and other basic analysis).
  • Restricted to property inspections pertaining to the risk rating mandate and may be called upon for general inspections of properties regarding new business and renewal opportunities. Property inspections limited to general properties that are less complex.
  • Fosters relationship with borrowers, mortgage brokers, developers and related industry groups – in effect promotes the presence of the company within the real estate industry.
  • Provides general assistance to management as requested as new processes and demands occur.
  • May be called upon to help and/or train less experienced employees and other colleagues.


  • University Degree in Commerce, Business Administration or Urban Land Economics, with a minimum of two (2) years of experience.
  • Working towards becoming an accredited member of the Appraisal Institute of Canada (A.A.C.I.) or of the Certified Appraiser of Ordre des Évaluateurs agréés du Québec (E.A.).
  • Knowledge of  Commercial Mortgage, an asset.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Very knowledgeable in word and excel.
  • Bilingual, French and English, written and spoken.
