The Consultant, Accounting and Internal Controls contributes to the achievement of the Finance Division objectives by:

  • Ensuring General Ledger accounts are monitored and reconciled on a timely basis in order to protect the integrity of the Company’s financial information;
  • Developing, or assisting in the development of, accounting and internal controls;
  • Providing professional accounting services, including analysis of financial information and evaluation of internal controls.
  • Ensuring that the Company complies with certain sections of Bill 198 issued by the Ontario Securities Commission.
  • Apply accounting principles and standard practices to the classification, recording and analysis of financial information;
  • Review Balance Sheet account reconciliations to evaluate the completeness and accuracy, and identify any issues that could have an impact on the Company’s results;
  • Review significant financial processes to evaluate the design of internal controls, identify deficiencies that could have a significant impact on the Company's results, and recommend and/or implement the necessary corrective action;
  • Perform a variety of adhoc analyses and internal management reporting;
  • Ensure new and/or existing accounting procedures are documented, complete, comprehensive and effectively communicated to the individuals concerned;
  • Implement and/or validate business process and accounting procedure changes to ensure operational objectives and standards are met;
  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge;
  • Identify, implement and maintain controls to mitigate financial and operational risks. Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and internal policies.


  • University degree in accounting or finance.
  • Professional accounting designation.
  • 5 years relevant experience in accounting and auditing.
  • Knowledge of Insurance and/or Banking Accounting.
  • Knowledge of GAAP and IFRS.
  • Knowledge of PeopleSoft GL, an asset.
  • Knowledge of MS Office suite.
  • Knowledge of regulations over the presentation and disclosure of financial information (e.g. NI 52-109).
  • Knowledge of Standard Life products, an asset.
  • Bilingual, French and English, written and spoken.
  • Strong analytical skills.
