Pricing Analyst, Bermuda

Description:

The expansion of the Bermuda Branch is an exciting new venture for Standard Life Canada. As this is a small but expanding operation, all staff in the Branch will need to be flexible and dynamic. They must have the ability to identify key work to be done, and the enthusiasm and initiative to tackle it.

The Pricing Analyst will play a key role in delivering profitable growth within the Branch, primarily by supporting the Managing Director in the preparation of new business quotations. This will involve:

  • modeling the business using AXIS software
  • analyzing client companies’ product lines, distribution methods, mortality experience, lapse experience, underwriting standards, risk management controls and market positioning
  • working with medical underwriters to develop conclusions on expected mortality
  • recommending the pricing basis to be used for particular quotations
  • preparing quotation documentation

In addition, the Pricing Analyst can expect to become involved in a variety of tasks such as Product Development, Retention Management, Treaty Negotiations, Reporting & Valuation, Experience Analysis and Business Planning.

The Pricing Analyst role is likely to include elements of the key tasks expected of an Actuarial Assistant:

  • Performing detailed analysis related to establishing adequate assumptions, asset/liability matching, rate setting, periodic reporting, financial and risk analysis.
  • Developing and producing studies including the various annual experience studies to show emerging company results and trends and to compare against expected results and long-term financial objectives.
  • Developing and analyzing financial projection models, producing reports on the various studies and on the results of the financial projections
  • Participating in the costing of the new/revised products and services to provide the required profit and financial soundness in the long run, in compliance with the Canadian Risk Policies
  • Supporting product development, implementation and launch when required

REQUIREMENTS

  • University degree in Actuarial studies, Mathematics or related field
  • Associate of the Societies of Actuaries (ASA) designation, or equivalent designation with other Actuarial Professional association
  • 3 to 5 years product development, marketing, sales or corporate actuarial experience
  • Committed to completing the Societies of Actuaries courses necessary to attain the Fellow, Society of Actuaries (FSA) designation, or equivalent designation with other Actuarial Professional association
  • Advanced knowledge of actuarial methods and analytical skills
  • Advances knowledge of actuarial pricing, projection systems and necessary programming languages and software
  • Fluent spoken and written English, Bilingual will be considered as an advantage
