Senior Data Base Administrator

To be successful in this role, the incumbent must ensure the maintenance of a database portfolio based on administration, security and development best practices and must contribute to technology architectures to improve database-related decisions.

  • Acts as a high-level database expert.
  • Develops and updates database administration policies and procedures.
  • Supports the infrastructure architect throughout the project planning and solution phase by providing database expertise.
  • Provides development teams with support for the databases in the portfolio.
  • Participates in database migration for the preproduction and production environments by ensuring the databases meet the safety standards and other considerations required for deployment.
  • Ensures database security, stability, reliability, availability, capacity, integrity and performance by using the tools available and improving current practices.
  • Maintains the databases in the portfolio at the appropriate patch level based on corporate policies.
  • Identifies risks and deficiencies and applies operational controls to mitigate such risks.
  • Ensures compliance with regulatory requirements and corporate policies pertaining to the database portfolio, namely with regard to the safety and protection of customer, intermediary and employee privacy.
  • Provides guidance and training for less experienced personnel.
  • Keeps up to date with regard to their knowledge of best practices and database technologies.


  • University degree in Computer Science, with at least 15 years of experience, including 7 years of practical experience using a database management system (DBMS).
  • Experience with 2 of the following technologies: DB2, Oracle and SQL Server.
  • Experience with high system availability (e.g. RAC, Data Guard, GoldenGate, etc.).
  • Experience with disaster recovery services.
  • Experience with database hardening and monitoring and detecting database vulnerabilities.
  • Experience implementing and using best practices related to database administration.
  • Experience participating in technology architecture exercises as a database expert.
  • Have managed a database portfolio in a major corporation.
  • Ability to work independently, well-organized and demonstrates good time and priority management skills.
  • Available to provide support 24/7 during a 2-week period within a 10-week cycle.
