Associate Vice-President, Delivery Service

The Leader, Delivery Service Centre, leads a large and complex set of IT delivery services, commercially costed, flexibly resourced with internal and external elements and with clear engagement contracts with customers and partners.

He provides clear leadership and direction for Standard Life IT professionals. He is the key contact for customers and partners, who will rely on him to make timely decisions.  He sets out a clear strategy and put in place clear operational practices for the IT delivery services assigned.

  • Provides a high quality, cost effective IT delivery service for the assigned applications, running the service as a business for the business.
  • Drives a clear release and delivery strategy for the assigned applications and a clear resourcing and sourcing strategy.
  • Accountable for managing the assigned applications as products and assets, balancing longer term investment with short term delivery requirements.
  • Manages budgets and keeps them up to date and plans investment and spending according to best governance practice standards.
  • Produce 18 months rolling release delivery plan and a 3 year business plan for the service. 
  • Ensures demand resource planning is effectively managed internally and externally to support release requirements.
  • Actively manages risk in the service by identifying key operational risks and communicating them to all parties concerned.
  • Measures and drives improvement in cost of delivery, productivity and output by setting clear targets, communicating clearly and working through our people and with our partners.
  • Sets clear strategy with delivery partners for applications assigned including resourcing, capabilities, budgets, processes, delivery contracts, reporting, communication, acceptance and planning. 
  • Identifies longer term sourcing options for applications assigned and deliver action plans to implement.
  • Manages the performance and development of his own direct reports and enhances their overall capabilities within their function, with a view of creating a high-performing team.
  • Works with practice managers and others leaders of the IT team in an advanced matrix structure.
  • Ensures compliance with core organizational policies (including those governing all technological matters, governance processes, hardware/software procurement, staff development/rewards, change initiatives, and standards of professional conduct).


  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field, or compensatory work experience.
  • 10 years of IT delivery experience in senior roles, in either a service delivery or IT development environment.
  • Experience identifying and negotiating external contracts, service management, market trends and business/industry knowledge.
  • Successful track record in managing of human and financial resources.
  • Experience of sponsoring projects, initiating and managing change across divisions or business units.
  • Knowledge in Finance, Insurance or banking industry.
  • Strong business acumen.
  • Ideally bilingual, French and English, written and spoken.
