Associate Vice-President in Technology Partnership

The Associate Vice-President, Technology Partnership is responsible for developing and managing partnerships with business customers with clear linkage to business plans and changes aligned with Standard Life’s technology roadmap. He drives and supports Canada Executive team in the production of Long Term Business Strategy and Operating Plans (Business Architecture and Technology Direction roadmaps). He works with executives and other key stakeholders to support the execution of the business plan for driving profitable growth across divisions.

He assists the CIO in prioritizing support for emerging technology platforms and pursuing a decommissioning agenda to simplify the technology estate.

  • Identifies and builds strategic alliances and partnerships with external technology partners that align with Standard Life’s strategic growth plan and support business needs.
  • Works in close partnership with Business Change and Delivery and in particular the Portfolio Owner for the same customer base.
  • Identifies and introduces new technologies that align with Standard Life’s technology roadmap.
  • Aligns Senior Executives, Architects and Partners to build a sustainable business by delivering services providing longer term value for money. 
  • Identifies key metrics and demonstrates progress.
  • Provides advice on options and recommendations on business and technology directions.
  • Ensures that appropriate controls are identified and managed to secure the service, including information security requirements appropriate to the services assigned.
  • Identifies key operational risks, communicates risk management plans and maintains accurate and up to date records on risk.
  • Ensures projects are aligned with Canada’s strategic goals to ensure realization of benefits to the business.
  • Provides support to IT and Business to help drive process standardization and resulting cost efficiencies across the organization.
  • Contributes to the definition of future state IT delivery in support of the delivery service centers.
  • Works with delivery service centers to ensure IT release plans are optimized to align to agreed architectural and commercial outcomes.
  • Manages the performance and development of one’s own direct reports and enhances their overall capabilities within their function, with a view of creating a high-performing team.


  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.
  • 10 years of IT experience, at least 5 of which as a lead on systems development initiatives.
  • Experience with international organizations as a Business Architect or Senior Enterprise Architect.
  • Experience in influencing senior executives and creating workable plans for input to delivery.
  • Experience in R&D for future service options and benchmarking.
  • Experience in implementing a continuous improvement mindset with a practice of re-using and sharing group assets and services.
  • Ideally bilingual, French and English, written and spoken.
  • Strategic mind.
  • Excellent communication and collaborative skills.
  • Financial Services Industry experience required.
