Description:

The Consultant in the Accounting Operations Team is joining a dynamic and fast-moving team within the Investment Operations department. 

The primary responsibilities of the Cash Operations Team are to ensure the correct recording of client transactions in our Standard Life of Canada funds and the processing of cash transfers & accounting entries for all of Standard Life of Canada’s Investment Funds and SCDA portfolios (for both the Retail and Group Savings & Retirement Lines of Business). In addition, the team is responsible for reconciling the custodian cash balances. Fee payments are also processed and administered on the Cash Operations Team. Finally, the team is also responsible for the cash management of the Standard Life of Canada portfolios.

  • Performs complex, regular and ad hoc analysis and/or reporting and communicates results (clear and reliable conclusions, tendencies and variance analysis) in accordance with applicable regulatory guidelines, accounting and industry standards. May review work performed by other team members.
  • Evaluates, recommends and develops tools, practices and controls that increase operational efficiency and quality of information.
  • Ensures their own workload is adequately planned and scheduled to meet deadlines and ensure adherence to quality standard. Provides guidance to team members.
  • Investigates trends and irregularities to identify causes, resolve issues/situations and, for more complex issues, develops options to be assessed by senior colleagues.
  • Leads projects to develop and implement new products, systems, tools and tests these to identify any issues. May include training Standard Life employees.
  • Provides timely information to colleagues, clients, auditors and/or regulators Identifies and resolves problems that require the implementation of new solutions.
  • Acts as a reference for less experienced employees. May act as a Coach.
  • Identifies, implements and maintains controls to mitigate financial and operational risks. Ensures compliance with regulatory requirements and internal policies.
  • Performs daily, weekly, monthly sign off of reconciliations, analysis, and other team deliverables.
  • Maintains relationships with investment managers, custodian representatives and other Standard Life departments and affiliates.
  • Can adequately represent the team at inter-departmental meetings.

REQUIREMENTS

  • University degree in Finance or Accounting with a minimum of five (5) years of relevant experience.
  • Accounting designation required.
  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge.
  • Canadian Securities Course, an asset.
  • Bilingualism, written and spoken.
  • Good communication skills and excellent analytical and organizational skills.
  • Proactive team player, flexible, dependable, professional attitude.
  • Ability to work on multiple projects in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • Strong problem-solving ability.
  • Experience in fund accounting.
  • Good understanding of the financial services industry, in particular investment funds and/or insurance funds.
  • Good understanding of investments (bonds, derivatives, short terms, stocks, derivative products).
