Description:

The Vice-President, Delivery Service, IT Operations, provides strategic leadership and direction for Operational IT Architecture, Infrastructure and Service Delivery for SL business in North America, including Standard Life in Canada and SLI.

As a member of the Group Operations Extended Leadership team, the incumbent will report directly to the Head of Infrastructure Services (Group) and indirectly to the Senior Vice-President, Technology of Standard Life in Canada (and other senior business IT executives at SLI). 

  • Is a key influencer and leader in the global IT community, driving operational IT architecture and strategies across Standard Life Group in the UK, Canada, Germany, the US and Asia Pacific, and making North America a strong voice in these discussions.
  • Works collaboratively with Group teams/colleagues across the world to deliver a robust, 24/7 customer-focused IT service delivery function to 3 business entities in the North American region with different priorities and strategic challenges.
  • Creates and develops strong partnerships with Senior Leaders across Standard Life and Standard Life Investment entities worldwide by ensuring delivery is aligned with the Operational IT 3-5 year strategic roadmaps.
  • Promotes best practice approaches to “raise the bar” on professional capability and customer focus within his own team, demonstrating proactive leadership and ownership of the business unit’s IT operational issues.
  • Reengineers the existing IT Operational function to deliver a stepped change in service performance and effectiveness by implementing the new global operating model based on best-in-class approaches to risk management methodologies.
  • Responsible for Security, Risk and Audit compliance within IT Operation North America, maintaining strong control during significant service impacts to protect the service.
  • Manages a sizeable budget and represents the region’s interests in the making of budget spending decisions at the Group level.
  • Accountable for balancing longer-term investment with short-term delivery requirements.
  • Manages the performance and development of his own direct reports and enhances their overall capabilities within their function, with a view toward creating a high-performing team.
  • Maintains industry awareness and continually looks for opportunities to develop best practices and ensure continuous improvement of service levels.
  • Represents Standard Life with external bodies and communities, demonstrating industry leadership and ensuring SL continues to leverage industry best practices.
  • Constructively challenges himself, his team and external suppliers to continually improve performance in an effort to meet or exceed service expectations.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field, plus 15 years of experience in IT operational roles, representing a proven track record in a senior position.
  • Demonstrates a real passion for execution of strategies for influencing customer satisfaction and enhancing the customer experience through consistent delivery on IT service excellence.
  • Ability to constructively challenge and reach consensus with senior-level peers in complementary business or IT disciplines.
  • Experience setting up and running solid external and internal partnerships.
  • Solid understanding of complex matrix management approaches and of international and multi-cultural work environments.
  • Hands-on experience managing strategy, operational plans, costs and risk for multiple customer bases.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and spoken, in French and English.
  • Experience influencing execs and senior managers across a large organizations and presenting complex information at the Board/Executive level.
  • Strong business acumen.
  • Detailed knowledge of IT frameworks (i.e., CobiT and ITIL).
  • Work experience in finance, insurance or the banking industry will be considered a strong asset.
