Description:

To be successful in this role, the Corporate Actuarial Consultant must provide professional actuarial services. Specifically, he/she is part of the team that calculates European Embedded Value (EEV), which is a profitability measure of the company, and produces a best estimate of balance sheet and income statement. The incumbent must build and maintain models to project cash flows for all items contributing to company profits. He/she interacts with many departments outside of the immediate team to ensure models are correct, accurate and up to date. The Corporate Actuarial Consultant ultimately analyzes results and provides an explanation of changes made.

  • Independently performs recurring or ad hoc actuarial duties and reports while ensuring the accuracy of results.
  • May supervise the completion of actuarial work and/or ensures the accuracy of colleagues’ results.
  • Proactively maintains working knowledge of tools, policies, processes, products and the business environment.
  • If required, helps and/or trains less experienced employees.
  • Collaborates on special projects, as directed. May lead the execution of simple projects.
  • Identifies and maintains controls to mitigate financial and operational risks. Ensures compliance with regulatory requirements and internal policies.

REQUIREMENTS

  • University degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics or a related field, and a minimum of three (3) years of relevant experience.
  • “Associate of the Society of Actuaries” (ASA) designation.
  • Enrolment in Standard Life’s Actuarial Development Program is strongly encouraged.
  • Familiarity with accounting will be considered an asset.
  • Familiarity with investments.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office, including familiarity with macros, is a definite advantage.
  • Familiarity with GGY AXIS is preferred.
  • Initiative and ability to work independently.
  • Good communication skills, both written and spoken.
  • Bilingual, French and English.
  • Ability to work well with others.
  • Ability to work well under pressure.
