Description:

Group Internal Audit (GIA) is responsible for providing independent and objective assurance to the Board of Directors and Executive Committee that effective controls have been implemented to manage key risks faced by the Group.

GIA has a proven track record in playing a key role in the development of a number of Executives across Standard Life and their mandate is strongly supported by Executive leaders across the Group.

We are now looking for an experienced Actuary to join our audit team and bring further actuarial insight and professional practice to the GIA team. You will be responsible for reviewing key processes and controls to ensure that these are effectively designed and operated to manage risk and where relevant for recommending areas for improvement. As part of our Montreal-based team, you will principally focus on the Canadian operations of Standard Life while also having an opportunity to gain exposure and add value to Standard Life operations around the world.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • With a bias towards actuarial (but not exclusively), review key processes and propositions to identify key areas of control to be tested;
  • Test key controls in order to provide assurance over both the design and operational effectiveness;
  • Report issues to Senior and Executive Management (up to SVP level);
  • Collaborate with our team in Edinburgh and our co-source partner (a Big 4 audit firm) to perform Group-wide reviews;
  • Ensure compliance with a Group-wide methodology that aligns to the Institute of Internal Auditors' requirements for professional practice; and
  • May review the work of others, across the Group-wide function, on relevant audit mandates.
     

REQUIREMENTS       

  • University degree and a minimum of five to eight years of relevant experience;
  • "Fellow of the Canadian Institute of Actuaries” (FCIA) designation (or equivalent);
  • Familiarity with accounting will be considered an asset;
  • Familiarity with investments will be considered an asset;
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office;
  • Initiative and ability to work independently;
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and spoken;
  • Bilingual, French and English;
  • Willingness for occasional travel to other group locations;
  • Ability to work well with others; and
  • Ability to work well under pressure.
