Java Developer

Description:

To be successful in this role, the Java Developer must develop, test and debug new software or improvements made to existing software, and ensure results meet expectations. Works at the technical and/or business level of all phases of application systems analysis and programming activities to understand problems and resolve them. Establishes program scope, efforts and objectives for problem resolution related to the development of information systems. Develops expertise in specific areas in order to provide influence and direction to systems development activities.

  • Contributes to the definition of program scope and objectives.
  • Sets up testing environments, libraries, tools and other elements required to perform development and testing tasks.
  • Revises and prepares complex, detailed specifications from which programs will be created or modified after clarifying them with users.
  • Implements a set of technical specifications by coding, compiling and testing computer applications.
  • Develops and modifies program and system documentation for both users and Operations.
  • Analyzes and reviews existing system and program logic as required.
  • Produces test plans and strategies for programs under his/her responsibility.
  • Supports users during the testing phase of new applications or modifications.
  • Takes an active part in the work of other IT specialists during development, testing and debugging activities.
  • Is accountable for delivering quality results and user satisfaction.
  • Acts as a technical specialist and provides guidance and training to less experienced staff members.
  • Identifies and reports weaknesses and applies controls to mitigate financial and operational risks. Ensures compliance with regulatory requirements and internal policies.

REQUIREMENTS

  • University degree in Computer Science, with a minimum of 5 years of experience in a relevant IT environment.
  • Good knowledge of the Application Development Life Cycle (traditional methodologies or Agile).
  • Excellent knowledge of systems development tools and methods.
  • Excellent knowledge of Java language and libraries: Java (J2EE, Spring, Hibernate, JUnit).
  • Excellent knowledge of Web development languages and libraries: HTML, Struts, CSS, JavaScript.
  • Good knowledge of different technological environments (Microsoft, Unix).
  • Good knowledge of Oracle (10g, 11g).
  • Knowledge of languages and development tools (PL/SQL, Pro*C) is an asset.
  • Knowledge of Fitness and Crystal Reports is an asset.
  • Basic knowledge of the finance and insurance industry.
  • Knowledge of IBM WebSphere Application Server is an asset.
  • Ability to learn on the fly.
  • Self-motivated, creative and able to take initiative.
  • Technical learning aptitude.
